A Diary of an English Garden by Paul Bangay is an intimate account of creating a garden from scratch in the Cotswolds, combining English gardening traditions, seasonal observations and the realities of bringing a vision to life.
Description
A Diary of an English Garden by renowned Australian landscape designer Paul Bangay follows the transformation of a cottage garden in the Cotswolds, drawing on his lifelong fascination with the great gardens of England. Written as a diary, the book captures the process of reshaping boundaries, planting hedges and perennials, and finding the balance between structure and softness as the garden evolves through the seasons.
Alongside the garden's transformation, Bangay documents the renovation of the cottage and his gradual immersion into village life, reflecting on the differences between English and Australian conditions and the enduring influence of English garden design. Beautifully illustrated and rich with observation, wit and practical insight, it offers a personal look at the making of a garden and the pleasures of watching it grow.
