Shopping for bedlinen it can be confusing!  Here are some handy hints and brief explanations of terms used, to ensure you always buy quality!

Special Aura Fabrics

AURA LUXE MICROFIBRE has been woven using a specially developed microfilament and luxuriously fine cotton which is four times finer than silk, eight times finer than cotton, and forty to one hundred times finer than a human hair! This characteristic of the fibre means it has nearly ten times the surface area of other fabrics which creates high absorbancy and evaporation rate for the ultimate comfort in keeping you cool. It is a high density jacquard weave which gives it the ultimate silk feel.

Our microfibre has been developed to create an intrinsically smooth and soft fabric which features an ultra fine surface with a stunning pearl effect finish which offers an amazing shimmer to the products. It’s fine, soft and comfortable and a total indulgence

Our 650 thread count is woven using entirely single ply yarns, making it undoubtedly one of the finest fabrics on the market. As well as being super fine, this fabric also is amazing in its colour - it is durable, strong and exceptional in colour fastness when washing.

And to top it all off, its formaldehyde free, has a Sanitized® finish, it’s easy to care for, machine washable and does not require ironing.

AURA LIFESTYLE COOLAMANTE is our EXCLUSIVE Supreme quality, amazingly easy-care fabric woven using specially developed fibres in a construction simular to pure silk. Coolamante is an innovation in bedlinen, woven using a blend of cotton and a high tech polyester– which is developed with filaments from Japan which is especially designed to absorb moisture.

Coolamante is woven in a 370 thread-count with an amazing shimmer caused by the silk profile of the fibre and the way the light hits the fabric. It has a dry-touch beautiful smooth feel and Exceptional breathability because of high absorbing fibres that have no feeling of humidity.

Coolamante has an Sanitized® finish, which stops any bacteria growing enabling you to comfortably wash in cold water and is finished with resins that are Formaldehyde free.

 Sanitized®

Enjoy maximum sleeping comfort and well-being with the benefits of Sanitized®. The Sanitized® high-tech built-in functions ensure an optimal hygiene and long-lasting material protection, and lower washing temperatures enable you to help conserve energy and resources.

Percale

The term ‘percale’ is used to describe fabrics made with a 225 thread-count or above. Percale can be used to describe both pure cottons and cotton blended fabrics.

Combed Cotton

The finished fabric has been put through a final process which brushes the surface of the fabric and removes any unwanted cotton and small fibres. This creates a smoother fabric.

Long Staple Fibres

A long staple cotton fibre is longer than a normal fibre and creates a stronger and smoother fabric – All AURA sheets are woven using long staple fibres and most of our bedlinen collections.

Mercerizing

A process that creates an extra layer on the fibres to give the fabric a sheen and greater strength.

Easy-Care Finish

A treatment given to some fabrics to help prevent creases and wrinkles, making them easier to iron.

Thread-Count

A thread-count is the number of threads woven together within a specified area. This consists of the fibres woven both vertically and horizontally. There are two ways to work out thread-counts:

(a) the fibres that can be counted within 1 square inch of fabric;
(b) the fibres that can be counted within 10 square centimetres of fabric.

In Australia we use the metric system - fibres counted within 10 square centimetres of fabric.

It is presumed that the higher the thread-count the better the fabric quality. This is true in most cases, however it is also very important that a high quality yarn be used, as it is still possible to weave high thread-count fabrics with undesirable yarn qualities. You can usually tell the quality of a fabric by the feel and overall look of the finished product. Our AURA bedlinen thread-counts are in a variety of thread-counts from 250-650, and all our bedlinen is woven using combed and mercerised fabrics.

Yarn Count

Yarns are available in several qualities and thicknesses. The fibres used to make the yarns can be measured and are available in a variety of sizes. To achieve higher thread-counts we weave finer yarns, enabling us to incorporate a larger amount of fibre into the fabric.
